Scottsdale Fashion Week Returns: Four Days of Style, Glamour, and Entertainment

Scottsdale is about to take center stage once again with the return of Scottsdale Fashion Week, running September 25โ€“28. Known as the cityโ€™s most high-end showcase of fashion, the event promises a dazzling lineup of shows, entertainment, and unforgettable experiences that draw designers, buyers, stylists, celebrities, and fashion lovers from across the Valley.

But this year, the excitement begins even earlier. On September 18, an exclusive invite-only Influencer Night kicks things off, followed by Core & Couture on September 20โ€”a unique yoga-and-fashion event in partnership with CorePower Yoga, Lululemon, and local wellness brands. From there, the week rolls into four nights of stylish spectacles, each with its own vibe and energy.

Thursday, September 25 โ€“ Opening Night

Fashion Week launches at a private residence with an unforgettable theme: โ€œFashion Through the Decades.โ€ Curated by Robert Black, Scottsdaleโ€™s vintage fashion expert, the show will highlight looks from the 1960s through the 2000s. Expect more than just runway glamourโ€”this evening is part fashion history, part art, and full of surprises. Attendees are even encouraged to dress in vintage fashion themselves, making it an interactive night of nostalgia and style.

Friday, September 26 โ€“ Swim & Lingerie Night

Friday gets sultry at the brand-new Caesars Republic Scottsdale with Caesars After Dark. Set against the backdrop of the rooftop pool deck, this show will feature bold designs from Boots and Bikinis, Cammie and Jack, and YY. Guests can expect sexy runway looks, immersive entertainment, and sponsor activations that keep the energy flowing well into the night.

Saturday, September 27 โ€“ The Statement Show

The runway heats up at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale, a longtime Fashion Week partner. This yearโ€™s spotlight designer is George Styler, whose avant-garde creations have graced Paris Fashion Week and dressed stars like Nicki Minaj and Rita Ora. Think dramatic headpieces, Instagram-worthy couture, and a true โ€œwowโ€ factor that blends fashion and performance. Saturday night is the ultimate evening to bring out your boldest style.

Sunday, September 28 โ€“ The Soirรฉe

Closing out the week is the Sunday Soirรฉe at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mallโ€”a daytime show perfect for all ages. Families, friends, and multi-generational groups will gather for brunch, shopping, and runway looks that can be purchased directly from featured designers, including local favorites Sandra and MJ. Itโ€™s the most accessible show of the week, combining fun, fashion, and community spirit.

More Than Fashion

What sets Scottsdale Fashion Week apart is that itโ€™s not just about clothingโ€”itโ€™s about creating an experience. Each night offers a fresh vibe, complete with live music, entertainment, and activations that go beyond the runway. And behind the glamour lies a mission: proceeds benefit Magical Builders, a nonprofit supporting women and children through initiatives ranging from beauty programs for mothers reentering the workforce to providing essentials for families in need.

Why Scottsdale Fashion Week?

Scottsdale continues to earn its place on the global fashion map, attracting designers eager to showcase in a city that blends luxury, creativity, and community. Whether youโ€™re a fashion enthusiast, someone looking for a unique night out, or just ready to see Scottsdale shine, this is your moment.

Scottsdale’s Food and Wine Vibes Uncovered

On the Scottsdale Vibes Podcast, we often ask: Whatโ€™s your favorite Scottsdale vibe? For the past several years, the top answer has been the food sceneโ€”and naturally, with food comes drink. What some may not know is that Arizona also has a growing, award-winning wine community.

Scottsdaleโ€™s Favorite Vibe: Food & Wine

This week, we sat down with two local sommeliers, Sage Toomey and Lucrezio, to talk about their funny and informative podcast, The Secret Life of Sommeliers, and what makes the Arizona wine scene so unique.

The Secret Life of Sommeliers

Sage and Lucrezio connected while working at a Scottsdale tasting room and studying for their sommelier certifications. Over a glass of wine (naturally), the idea for their podcast was born.

Their show, The Secret Life of Sommeliers, blends wine knowledge with humor, spotlighting:

  • Arizona winemakers and vineyards
  • Tips for learning wine basics (without the intimidation)
  • Stories from the industry
  • Plenty of laughs along the way

โ€œItโ€™s wine,โ€ they say. โ€œHow serious can you be?โ€

You can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

Arizonaโ€™s Unique Wine Country

When most people think wine, they think Napa or Oregonโ€”but Arizona is quickly making its mark. The state has three main wine regions:

  • Wilcox โ€“ Arizonaโ€™s largest grape-growing area
  • Sonoita โ€“ known for boutique, small-batch producers
  • Verde Valley โ€“ a growing region north of Scottsdale

Unlike larger regions, Arizonaโ€™s wine scene is intimate and hands-on. Visitors often meet the winemaker or owner in the tasting roomโ€”something that sets the state apart from more commercial wine destinations.

What Arizona Wines Are Known For

Arizonaโ€™s desert climate produces bold, distinctive wines. A few highlights:

  • White Wines: Malvasia Bianca (Arizonaโ€™s flagship white grape) and Sauvignon Blanc. Malvasia is floral, aromatic, and a customer favorite.
  • Red Wines: Spanish varietals thrive here, including Tempranillo, Grenache, and Mourvรจdre. Expect bold, fruit-forward reds that pair beautifully with Arizona cuisine.
  • Rosรฉ: A local favorite, crisp and refreshing, especially in the Scottsdale heat.

The desert climate brings unique challenges, especially monsoon season during harvest, which can affect grape quality. Yet, Arizona winemakers continue to produce award-winning bottles year after year.

Behind the Scenes: What a Sommelier Does

Sommeliers arenโ€™t just wine loversโ€”theyโ€™re trained professionals who:

  • Guide guests in choosing wines to match their preferences
  • Educate customers on regions, grapes, and pairings
  • Bring humor and approachability to the wine experience
  • Sometimes even help make the wine

For beginners, Sage and Lucrezio recommend starting with approachable wines like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, or a French Rosรฉ. โ€œTheyโ€™re light, neutral, and perfect for learning your palate,โ€ Sage explains.

Where to Experience Arizona Wine

Both sommeliers shared their favorite local spots:

  • Erdest Tasting Room (Scottsdale) โ€“ Known for bold red wines and a lively vibe.
  • Vino Stache Winery (Sonoita) โ€“ An appointment-only gem run by Scottsdale native Brooke Lowry-Ide, offering adventurous, small-batch wines.
  • Liquor Pig (Scottsdale) โ€“ A new wine bar with a curated selection from head sommelier Scott Casey.

Wine Doesnโ€™t Have to Break the Bank

Great wine doesnโ€™t have to mean a $100 bottle. According to Sage and Lucrezio, you can find quality wine in the $20โ€“$30 rangeโ€”itโ€™s about knowing what to look for, not just the price tag.

Scottsdaleโ€™s Wine Vibe

Arizonaโ€™s wine scene is on the rise, and Scottsdale is becoming a hub for locals and visitors to explore it. With sommeliers like Sage and Lucrezio leading the wayโ€”through both tastings and their podcastโ€”the future of Arizona wine is bright, bold, and maybe even a little funny.

So next time youโ€™re looking for your favorite Scottsdale vibe, consider pouring a glass of Arizona wine.

Scottsdale Welcomes the Arizona Black Rodeo

What started at Rawhide has found its perfect home at WestWorld, a state-of-the-art, indoor, air-conditioned arena that keeps both fans and contestants comfortable in the Arizona heat.

Each year, the rodeo attracts more than 100 contestants from across the country, including professional cowboys and cowgirls from Oklahoma, California, Arkansas, and Mississippi, many of whom compete on the national rodeo circuit.

What to Expect at the 2025 Arizona Black Rodeo

New in 2025: the Shining Spurs Program, where children with autism or special needs are paired with real cowboys and cowgirls for their own rodeo moment in the arena.

More Than Just a Rodeo

Beyond the dust and adrenaline, the Arizona Black Rodeo is deeply rooted in heritage and community. The event shines a light on the often-overlooked contributions of Black cowboys and cowgirls, creating a space where history, representation, and celebration come together.

Through the Black Rodeo USA Foundation, the organization also provides scholarships for young athletesโ€”over $70,000 to dateโ€”and recently crowned its first ever Miss Black Rodeo USA, Samira Miller from Gilbert, Arizona.

Exploring Scottsdale Real Estate with Shawn Shackleton

Shawn Shackleton Scottsdale Real Estate Broker

On this weekโ€™s episode, we have the privilege of chatting with none other than Shawn Shackleton, a seasoned expert from the Shackleton Group, a name well-known and respected in the real estate world. Scottsdale’s real estate market is like a rollercoaster, constantly changing and shifting. Lately, there has been a noticeable slowdown in home sales. However, don’t let that mislead you; home prices remain fairly consistent. This dip in sales isn’t a cause for alarm, as it signifies a return to more typical seasonal patterns after a period of unpredictability driven by global events like the COVID-19 pandemic. October marks a resurgence in interest in the Scottsdale market, mainly driven by the arrival of snowbirds and the cooler weather, which draws people back to the area.

Understanding Mortgage Dynamics

One key factor in today’s real estate landscape is the current interest rates, which are hovering around 7.4%. This figure might raise eyebrows, especially among potential buyers who’ve grown accustomed to historically low rates of around 2.75% to 3%. But let’s put things into perspective. Seasoned homeowners, particularly those from Gen X and the Baby Boomer generation, might fondly recall locking in rates of 12% to 18%. So, while today’s rates may seem
steep compared to recent lows, they are relatively modest when viewed historically. For prospective homeowners, it’s essential to focus on their potential mortgage payments rather than just the overall mortgage amount. This approach allows buyers to understand what they can afford over the long term, taking into account potential future rate fluctuations.

The Locked-In Effect and Popular Scottsdale Zip Codes

Interestingly, many homeowners who locked in historically low rates are feeling “locked in” to their homes. They’re hesitant to give up their enviable rates for the unknowns of a new purchase. This ‘locked-in effect’ means that even those desiring to relocate are carefully weighing the financial pros and cons. For those still eager to jump into the market, certain Scottsdale zip codes are exceptionally appealing. The 85255 area maintains consistent demand due to its prime location near the McDowell Mountains and easy access to the 101 freeway. The 85254 zip code, often referred to as the “magic zip code,” offers the best of both Scottsdale’s prestige and Phoenix’s favorable tax rates. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to avoid homeowners’ associations, though the architectural style here might not suit everyone’s taste.

Conclusion

Autumn in Scottsdale promises a blend of community spirit and festive cheer. So, gear up, mark your calendars, and prepare to make the most of this season. Until next time, keep vibing, Scottsdale!

In a memorable episode, I had the pleasure of hosting the talented Adriana Licitra. Originally from Long Island, New York, Adriana’s journey is one of dreams shelved and rediscovered. From aspiring to be an actress, to taking a detour into journalism, and then circling back to the world of acting, her story epitomizes resilience. With notable roles in the series “Scottsdale” and the movie “12 Steps to Recovery,” she’s not only following her dream but also pioneering a sketch comedy show specifically for women. Adriana’s narrative underscores that our early passions, even if momentarily overshadowed, can rekindle with vigor if nurtured right.

Scottsdale: An Unexpected Acting Haven

For many, the words “acting hub” might conjure images of New York or Los Angeles. However, our very own Scottsdale is steadily emerging as a sanctuary for budding artists. Adriana’s initial reservations about the city’s acting scene melted away once she discovered its burgeoning artistic community. With the guidance of mentors like Amanda Melby at Verve Studios and representation from Ruth Layton at the Layton Agency, she’s not only found her footing but is making significant strides in the local film circuit.

But what truly sets Scottsdale apart? It’s the combination of a supportive community, lesser competition, and proximity to major film markets. In today’s digital age, local actors can leverage remote auditioning, bridging the gap between Scottsdale’s charm and the glitz of larger cities.

Communal Thriving in Scottsdale

Scottsdale is more than its individuals; it’s a collective force. And within this force, stories like Adriana’s shine bright, exemplifying the support and encouragement that our community provides. Here, achievements aren’t just personal milestones; they uplift and inspire everyone around.

A National Footprint

While Scottsdale is Emmyโ€™s primary canvas, her designs have beautified homes from Florida to Newport Beach. Protรฉgรฉ Footwear: From Heels to Comfort With Candice Chen

Candice Chen, owner of Protรฉgรฉ Footwear

I recently had the distinct pleasure of diving deep into the bustling heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. Among the myriad of unique offerings the city is teeming with, one gem caught my eye โ€“ or should I say, my feet? Candice Chen, the genius behind Protรฉgรฉ Footwear, might have cracked the age-old code of merging fashion with comfort in high heels. Yep, you read that right!

Golf Courses to Runways: Candice’s Unexpected Pivot

I was fascinated to learn about Candiceโ€™s transition from designing for golfย apparel to revolutionizing the world of high heels. Who would’ve thought? A networking event turned out to be the catalyst. After a night in heels, Candice’s discomfort pushed her to study and innovate heel designs. And boy, the discoveries she made about even some high-end brands were startling!

Heels with a Purpose: The Protรฉgรฉ Approach

Candiceโ€™s heels are far from the usual. She’s combined her engineering background with the intricacies of foot anatomy to craft shoes that are as comfortable as they are stylish. Forget the usual compressed cardboard; think triple-layer foot padding, shock-absorbing gel foam, and memory foam. Sheโ€™s on a mission to banish ailments like Newtonโ€™s neuroma from the lives of high heel enthusiasts.

I believe in celebrating pioneers like Candice. While many in the fashion world have maintained a status quo, Candice’s Protรฉgรฉ Footwear is disrupting the space, proving that fashion and function can coexist harmoniously.

Inside the Design Room: My Chat with Candice

During our conversation, I delved into Candiceโ€™s inspirations. Candice shared her love for heels and the desire to seamlessly blend style with comfort. She passionately walked me through her unique stiletto design, the versatility in her footwear range, and even a sneak peek into their upcoming boots. I was genuinely impressed by how her engineering mind influenced these fantastic designs. As she wrapped up, she reflected on her time in Scottsdale, and how it has influenced her preferences and observations.

On The Horizon: Scottsdaleโ€™s Stylish Future

The quest for the perfect heel might just be over, thanks to Candice. Protรฉgรฉ Footwear isnโ€™t just about shoes; itโ€™s a brand that understands and addresses womenโ€™s needs. If you’re as intrigued as I was, check out Candice’s feature in the Scottsdale City Lifestyle’s style issue, or head over to YouTube for an in-depth view into her venture.

Gateway Academy: Shaping the Future of Children With Autism

Scottsdale, often celebrated for its vibrant culture and stunning locales, has a unique gem nestled within its bounds – Gateway Academy.https://gatewayacademy.us/ This institution isn’t just any school; it’s a beacon of hope for high-functioning autistic children and their families.

Gateway Academy Seeking Balance

Founded by the indomitable Robin Sweet, Gateway Academy fills a void that many families face in the education system. While children with high-functioning autism are intellectually brilliant, they often grapple with social, emotional, and sensory challenges. Schools that cater to children with learning disabilities don’t always cater to
these unique needs. This gap is what prompted Robin, whose son also falls under this category, to venture into the educational sector, giving these children a place where they truly belong.

An Evolutionary Journey

When Robin first moved to Scottsdale, she hoped to find a school suited to the needs of children with Aspergerโ€™s syndrome. But the options available mainly addressed more general learning disabilities like dyslexia or behavioral issues. Disheartened but undeterred, Robin decided to create what she couldn’t find.

Today, Gateway Academy specifically caters to students from grades six to twelve. Initially, the academy had an expansive grade range starting from kindergarten. However, younger students required a different kind of individual attention. With the academy’s commitment to providing only the best, they narrowed their focus to grades where
they could truly excel.

More Than Just Education

What sets Gateway Academy apart isnโ€™t just its targeted educational curriculum. The academy recognizes the profound intelligence of its students. Discussions can rapidly evolve from general topics to deep dives into subjects like physics, driven by the students’ diverse passions.

Teachers at the academy are equipped to nurture these passions, even if they change week by week. The curriculum is dynamic, molded around the ever-evolving interests of the students. This method not only keeps the learning process intriguing but also ensures that students remain engaged and excited about education.

Anthony Terrell, the Director of Education at Gateway, resonates with the mission deeply. Having grown up with a brother on the spectrum, Anthony has firsthand experience of the challenges and joys. This personal connection drives him and the rest of the team to offer an environment where students can thrive both academically and
personally.

Lessons Beyond The Classroom

While Gateway Academy is designed for children with high-functioning autism, it offers lessons that everyone can embrace. Anthony highlights a simple but powerful practice: taking a break. Whether itโ€™s a bad day or a challenging task, sometimes stepping away for a few moments can change the perspective and outcome. Itโ€™s not about
giving up but allowing oneself the space to regroup and return stronger.

A Future Full of Possibilities

Gateway Academy isn’t just about imparting knowledge. The goal is to prepare its students for life beyond school. Whether itโ€™s pursuing higher education, embarking on a career, or building personal relationships, the academy aims to equip its students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the outside world.

As the conversation around autism becomes more widespread, institutions like Gateway Academy remind us of the importance of specialized education. Every child, regardless of their needs, deserves an environment where they can flourish. With its dedicated team and innovative approach, Gateway Academy is undoubtedly leading the way.

We work closely with parents to ensure that they have all the necessary information and support to apply for the ESA scholarship. Our goal is to ensure that financial constraints don’t become a barrier to a child’s education, especially when they require specialized attention and care.

In terms of transportation, we recognize the challenges many parents face, especially those who live farther away from the school. We’re constantly exploring options and partnering with transportation services to make it feasible for parents. We have a number of parents who carpool, which has been beneficial for many.

The Most Important Message

The main message we want to get across is that we’re here to support not just the students, but also their families. We’re in this together, and we’ll do whatever it takes to ensure our students receive the education they deserve.

Lastly, I want to emphasize the community aspect of Gateway Academy. From parent support groups to collaborative community projects, we believe in the power of unity and working together. It’s not just about academics; it’s about shaping well-rounded, confident, and capable individuals who can thrive in the real world. And we’re committed to that mission, every step of the way.

Scottsdale’s Real Estate Market and The Art of Balanced Living

courtney fox yoga

On this weekโ€™s podcast episode, I had the privilege of chatting with seasoned real estate agent Shawn Shackleton, touching on Scottsdale’s real estate intricacies, and the dynamics of buyer behavior. Then I got to talk with the ever-inspirational yoga instructor Courtney Fox talking about how yoga can keep you balanced through all life throws
at you.

The Unpredictable World of Interest Rates

Oh, interest ratesโ€”everybody’s favorite topic, right? In Scottsdale, it seems like they’re the unsung hero (or villain) in every real estate story. Shawn pointed out that while the rates hover around 7%, it’s not the same for every aspiring homeowner. Your credit score and debt-to-income ratio can make all the difference. And before you ask, no, the experts like Barbara Corcoran don’t think home prices are going down anytime soonโ€”maybe leveling off if we’re lucky.

Supply, Demand, and The New Construction Wave

Despite those high rates, y’all, people are still clamoring for quality homes. Shawn emphasized that properties in hot spots often receive multiple offers, sometimes exceeding the listing price. And for those of you stuck between choosing a resale or new construction home, here’s a tidbit: new constructions have been steadily outpacing
resales. So builders are clearly having a heyday. There’s something about that new home smell, isn’t there?

Debunking Myths: No, Scottsdale Isn’t a Foreclosure Haven

Shawn was quick to dismantle the myth about Scottsdale teeming with foreclosures. Mortgage delinquencies are at an all-time low since the ’80s, making the 2008 housing crisis comparisons moot. So, for now, stability seems to be the keyword.

Seasonal Changes and Buyer Behavior

Being patient is great advice for life and particularly for navigating Scottsdale’s real estate market. Shawn noted that the market has been following its typical seasonal ebbs and flows. So, don’t lose hope; your perfect home is out there somewhere!

The Shawn Shackleton Difference

What sets Shawn apart isn’t just her decades of experience, it’s her ability to really “get” what you’re looking for. She’s not just any realtor; she’s your real estate guardian angel. So, if you’re serious about home-hunting, give her a call at 480-734-7277 or pop into The Shackleton Group.

Balancing It Out With Yoga and Courtney Fox

Switching gears a bit, let’s talk about the balance in life. My conversation with yoga instructor Courtney Fox was nothing short of enlightening. Courtney left the corporate world in 2015, and it’s been a whirlwind of mindfulness, meditation, and some incredibly flexible poses since. Her holistic approach to yoga is not just about physicality; it’s about enriching your life and your interactions with the community. She’s got the credentials and the hours logged in to back it up.

Mindfulness Off the Mat

And itโ€™s not just yoga poses. Courtney emphasized the role of mindfulness in everyday life, whether it’s taking a pause to appreciate your meal or engaging deeply in conversations. She even passionately talked about her husbandโ€™s food truck venture, “From the Wildfire,” adding yet another layer of balance to her life.

The Scottsdale Community Vibe

Courtney adores Scottsdale, and I can see why. Our local community vibe is a mesh of outdoor brunches, yoga, and, of course, real estate. Scottsdale seems to be the nexus where wellness, community, and investment collide. Courtneyโ€™s favorite part? The brunches, especially those with a wellness twist. Hey, who can blame her?

In Summary

Whether itโ€™s navigating Scottsdale’s ever-changing real estate market or achieving a more balanced life through yoga, the advice and perspectives of experts like Sean Shackleton and Courtney Fox are invaluable. So, if you’re pondering when to make your next moveโ€”literally or metaphoricallyโ€”remember that knowledge and balance are your best allies.
