Scottsdale Welcomes the Arizona Black Rodeo
Scottsdale is gearing up for one of its most exciting annual traditions—the Arizona Invitational Black Rodeo—returning to WestWorld of Scottsdale on August 29–30, 2025.
This isn’t your typical rodeo. The Arizona Black Rodeo combines heart-pounding action with a celebration of Black cowboy and cowgirl history, making it both educational and entertaining for the whole family.
A 14-Year Tradition in Scottsdale
Founded in 2011 by Lanette Campbell, the Arizona Black Rodeo has grown into one of the Top 10 Rodeos in the U.S., as voted by USA Today in both 2024 and 2025.
What started at Rawhide has found its perfect home at WestWorld, a state-of-the-art, indoor, air-conditioned arena that keeps both fans and contestants comfortable in the Arizona heat.
Each year, the rodeo attracts more than 100 contestants from across the country, including professional cowboys and cowgirls from Oklahoma, California, Arkansas, and Mississippi, many of whom compete on the national rodeo circuit.
What to Expect at the 2025 Arizona Black Rodeo
This year’s rodeo features two action-packed days filled with events for all ages:
- Bull Riding – heart-stopping excitement that always brings the crowd to its feet
- Barrel Racing – showcasing speed, skill, and precision
- Roping Events – calf roping, tie-down roping, and more
- Mutton Bustin’ – kids holding on tight for the ride of their lives
- Ranch Bronc Riding – complete with a cowboy known for ending his ride with a backflip
New in 2025: the Shining Spurs Program, where children with autism or special needs are paired with real cowboys and cowgirls for their own rodeo moment in the arena.
More Than Just a Rodeo
Beyond the dust and adrenaline, the Arizona Black Rodeo is deeply rooted in heritage and community. The event shines a light on the often-overlooked contributions of Black cowboys and cowgirls, creating a space where history, representation, and celebration come together.
Through the Black Rodeo USA Foundation, the organization also provides scholarships for young athletes—over $70,000 to date—and recently crowned its first ever Miss Black Rodeo USA, Samira Miller from Gilbert, Arizona.
